Study types
Level I vs Level II polysomnography
Both are comprehensive PSG categories. The key practical difference is supervision: Level I is attended, while Level II is portable and unattended during the overnight recording.
Attended comprehensive PSG
A trained technologist is present during the recording and supervises technical quality throughout the study. The appropriate setting depends on the patient's clinical requirements.

Unattended portable comprehensive PSG
Level II uses comprehensive PSG monitoring in a portable setup and can be performed at home without continuous technologist attendance during the overnight recording. Suitability depends on clinical assessment and the referral pathway.

How Level III differs: Level III testing generally records a smaller set of cardiorespiratory signals. Level I and Level II comprehensive PSG include sleep-staging signals such as EEG, EOG and EMG.
